At the Dutch Customs Agency, I work as the head of product (“Ketenregisseur”). In this role, I am responsible for various systems, some of which are vital government services, in support of customs declaration, transport, and e-commerce processes, as well as some solutions to support all customs processes. In this role, I am responsible for a department with nine scrum teams and a product team of more than ten different POs and analysts.

In my role, I deal with a complex IT landscape that is closely intertwined with the Dutch Tax Authority. In addition, we collaborate with several other government organizations, all other EU member states of the Customs Union, the EU itself, and of course the businesses that use these systems. This results in a wide and complex stakeholder landscape, within an administratively complex organization.

The Customs office has been working for several years according to a method based on the SAFe model. With my knowledge and experience, I also try to contribute to the maturity of the organization. I take initiative and am also involved in ongoing improvement projects, for example concerning the design of the portfolio process.

My responsibilities include, among others:
- Developing a product vision and strategy for the various solutions and applications at the ART Flow level.
- Developing and maintaining the various backlogs for the solutions, based on the prioritized portfolio backlog and input from the teams in the department.
- Managing a broad and administratively complex stakeholder landscape for the various solutions and adjusting the value stream/streams accordingly.
- Providing leadership in the further development of the organization in the area by bringing in the agile mindset, for example by:
- Ensuring SAFe best practices and ceremonies such as the PI-event.
- Facilitating and guiding the product team in letting go of old practices.
- Substantive responsibility for all solutions and applications. This includes areas like performance, availability, compliance, accessibility, and security.
- Complying with European and Dutch Customs Legislation through well-automated processes and services.
